White Dragon

Lyrics by Howard Anshell

I saw the white dragon,
Flying through the sky.
Her tail was waggin’—
She stopped as she passed me by.
I said, “Where’re you going to,
You great white reptile?”
She’s saw me standing down here,
And she breathed a fiery smile…
She said, “Why’re you wasting your time down there
In your misery,
When you could be
Flying around the sky with me?”
“I Don’t know where to go,
Don’t know what to do –
Something inside says I should
Go with you,
But I got the best house,
I’ve got my guitar,
I’ve got all my food and my brand new car!
I can my true life’s call—
I’ve got the world and I
Own it all!
The heaviest books,
The brightest rings—
I’ve got the finest things,
I’ve got the finest things,
I’ve got the finest things!”
“The time is right,
The time is now—
The time is here, anyhow!
You can go where you want,
Do what you will;
I just can’t seem to get my fill of
Life,
‘Cause the taste is sweet!
The past has gone;
There is no need to repeat
So hop on and
Grab a fin—
I’ll take you where there are no ends,
And you can dance!
You can be friends with it,
Living on the edge of it,
Watch it go by!
You can have fun with it,
Or decide you’re done with it,
And kiss it goodbye!
All things must change—
They just can’t stay the same,
And the moment moves on—
You try to fetch it,
You might even catch it,
If it’s where you belong.”
I hear the voice of the future—
It tells me that my house has burnt down!
My friends all say I’m a loser—
They don’t even want me around!
My favorite guitar’s neck is broken;
The last of my books has been read!
All of my food has been eaten;
My brand new car’s engine is dead!
Even my rings are of glass—
Who got me into this mess?
And so, my mind’s finally
Made up.
“I’m ready to go now!” I shout;
But all I can see when I look up:
A white puff of smoke and some clouds…
The next time I see a
White dragon
Flying through the sky,
I’ll be the one who’s smiling—
She’s not going to pass me by!
