The Piper

Lyrics by Howard Anshell

We all must pay the piper what is coming to her,
‘Cause if we don’t she’s going to play
Another kind of tune!
The world must be deciphered
As it’s coming to us—
Pause in the whole, and it’s going to be
Another mindless doom.
It’s time to rinse the water,
And take the soot out with it –
Our beds are made from the history
Of everything we’ve done.
Some minds can sense the order
And make the truth shout with it;
Sour heads say it’s a mystery that anything is done.
It’s been such a long while,
Ready to smile—
Guess I’ll start all over again!
We’re out on a long ride
To bring the inside outside
From the heart and over again!
Staring at reflections,
New directions–
Perfections—
Start all over again!
Find a new beginning,
Come out winning,
Grinning,
From the heart all over again !
The past is the future
Returning backward to us –
It weaves a winding dance to the place
From which it came.
At last if I find you sure,
Then learning that would do us—
It cleaves a fine path through the haze that still remains.
The piper fills the rafters—
We follow after.
Laughter –
Start all over again!
The clown who holds the answers
Makes us dancers,
Enhancers,
From the heart all over again!
